Our values

Own your data, own your future.

Data Union Café exists to make the data economy fair — starting with yours.

What we stand for Five principles

The Fair Trade Data principles.

01 / 05

Your data is yours.

We fetch it, you keep it, and you can delete it whenever you choose. It lives in your account, under your control — never in a warehouse of ours to trade.

02 / 05

Nothing moves without your say-so.

Every request, every share, every partner is opt-in — one at a time, in plain English. If you never say yes, it simply never happens.

03 / 05

We never sell your data.

Members are the customer, never the product. Our income is your membership fee — which is why we answer to you, and to no one else.

04 / 05

Fair value flows back.

When your data creates value, you see your share — in pounds, on your dashboard. Every figure is labelled with where it came from: from your Tesco data or our estimate, never a mystery number.

05 / 05

Plain talk.

No small print, no dark patterns, no manufactured urgency. If we can’t explain a decision at the kitchen table, we don’t ship it.

Why a union?

One person’s data is a rounding error. A union’s isn’t.

Alone, you’re one row in someone else’s spreadsheet — easy to ignore, cheap to buy. Together, members negotiate as a bloc: with supermarkets, with brands, with researchers.

Unions won fair wages for the working week. The same idea works for your data: collective bargaining, brought to the data age.

Our side of the bargain Fair Trade Data

What we do with the trust you give us.

Research for public good

Named, ethics-approved studies only

Member data only ever supports research you can point to — like the ethics-approved ovarian-cancer early-signals study with the University of Nottingham.

Research participation, not diagnosis. You approve every step.
Independent

No retailer or broker owns a piece of us

We take no money from supermarkets or data brokers, so nothing we tell you is shaped by what they’d prefer you to hear.
